He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a training focus in adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He joined the orthopedic faculty at the UT Health Science Center in 2009 as a hip and knee reconstructive surgery specialist. In 2014, he became the program director for the UTHSCSA hip and knee reconstructive surgery fellowship. In October 2014, he was one of two U.S. surgeons selected to participate in the John Insall traveling fellowship for knee replacement surgery. In 2015, he created Ortho San Antonio, an orthopedic specialty group to enhance the quality and outcomes of adult hip and knee surgery. He has been the section editor in a major hip and knee reconstruction textbook. He has also contributed chapters in several major textbooks focusing on hip and knee replacement surgery. Based on this experience, he is actively pursuing clinical research in these areas and is involved in creating the first total joint replacement clinical database in San Antonio. As such, he is committed to improving the cost-effectiveness and quality of outcomes of hip and knee replacement surgery.
